Raw Advice + Info
Hygiene
Just like how you take care when prepping and handling raw food yourself, it's the same with raw pet food – many people forget that it's the exact same practice!
Here are some essential tips to keep your family healthy when handling raw meat...
-
Use Separate Utensils: Always use different utensils for raw meat and cooked foods to prevent cross-contamination.
-
Store Properly: Seal raw meat and place it on the bottom shelf of the fridge like you would with ordinary raw meat.
-
Dispose Packaging Carefully: Open raw meat packaging and dispose of it immediately to prevent the spread of bacteria.
-
Practice Good Hand Hygiene: Thoroughly wash and dry your hands after handling raw meat to avoid transferring germs.
-
Clean Pet Bowls: Wash your pet’s food bowl with hot, soapy water after each meal to ensure it is free from bacteria.
-
Maintain Proper Temperature: Never allow raw meat to sit out and become warm. Defrost it in the fridge overnight or in a cool place to keep it safe.
Our Food
Serving from our chubbs...
The simplest way to serve our products from our chubbs is to either;
1- Defrost the entire chubb, snipping one end, and dispensing the contents into a container with a lid, or you can even keep it in the chubb and squeeze out what you need when needed;
OR
2- Skin the chubb while it is still frozen and allow it to defrost in a container with a lid.
By using minimal packaging for our chubbs,
we're able to keep costs low which is reflected in our prices.
Storage
Here are a few must-dos for defrosting and storing your raw dog food:
All our foods are frozen and should be kept frozen until you are ready to use them. Due to the insulated packaging, it can take up to 48 hours to defrost a pack in the fridge, so we suggest leaving the chubb somewhere cool (not warm) overnight.
We recommend cutting through the packaging while still frozen and removing it before thawing. Store in a sealed container. If necessary, the meat can be partially defrosted for portioning and then refrozen.
Once fully defrosted, it will last in the fridge for up to 3 days. For the best-before date, please see the label or the side of the pack.
Always follow proper hygiene when handling raw pet food. Wash your hands thoroughly after contact to prevent cross-contamination.

As a general guideline, adult dogs should eat 2-3% of their body weight daily. For instance, a 10kg adult dog might need 200-300g per day. Remember, this is just a guide, and some dogs might need more or less than these amounts. Keep an eye on their body condition as well. You can use our calculator to get the exact amount and cost for your dog.
How Often:
Twice Daily – Morning & evening are common, but adjust to what works best.
Once Daily – Morning or evening, with evening being a popular choice. For example: a Bonio at 11 am, a tinned sardine and carrot midday, and a raw meal at 5 pm.
If your dog already has a routine, stick with it—just aim for evenly spaced meals to keep them satisfied. Treats can be given throughout the day between meals and exercise.
Handle raw dog food the same way you handle your own food. We provide plenty of tips on storing and handling the food safely, it's regularly checked for safety and made using high-quality ingredients.
Cross-contamination with raw dog food is proven to be very low. Food is prepared and delivered with careful temperature control, reducing any chance of bacteria growth.
We use insulated wool liners made from 100% pure sheep's wool, which is the best natural insulator on Earth. These wool liners are very effective at keeping produce at the right temperature for up to 48 hours. Each order arrives in a double-insulated box with ice packs, keeping the food fresh for up to 48 hours if needed. If there are any delays, as long as the tubes are still cold to the touch when they arrive, you can safely refreeze them.
You may be surprised to hear that switching your dog to a raw diet is super simple! The most effective approach is to make an immediate switch – think 'cold turkey' – from your dog's current diet to raw feeding.
To begin, serve your dog their usual meal in the evening and introduce the raw diet the next morning, maintaining their regular feeding schedule.
If you prefer to gradually mix in raw food while phasing out the old stuff over 3-5 days, that's absolutely fine also- just do what feels right for your dog. The key thing is you've decided to make the switch and whether you dive in immediately or take a few days, you're making the best choice for your dog!

Always follow proper hygiene when handling raw pet food. Wash your hands thoroughly after contact to prevent cross-contamination. Never use the microwave to defrost raw food.
Once their food has been defrosted, it can be safely stored in the fridge for a period of 3 to 4 days- enough time to ensure no waste or off-food.

Vets aren’t nutritionists and can sometimes be misinformed. Just like the rest of us, they’re exposed to advertising and sales pitches from processed food manufacturers.
Many vets who discourage a raw diet are the same ones promoting highly processed foods, which goes against global scientific evidence. We know processed foods are bad for us, so why would it be any different for our pets?
For more information from pro-raw vets or to find one near you, check out the Raw Feeding Veterinary Society.
We do not recommend mixing, here's why! Mixing raw food with kibble or canned food isn't recommended due to the risk of digestive issues. A dog's stomach is highly acidic (pH level 2), perfectly designed to break down bones and thrive on a raw diet.
If you want to keep some dry food in the mix, be sure to serve it at different mealtimes from the raw food as mixing the two can upset your pup's tummy since they digest at different speeds.
Combining a highly processed kibble with our all-natural raw goodness might mean missing out on the full benefits of a raw diet... so let's keep it raw and keep those tails wagging!
Dogs are naturally equipped with the right teeth and digestive systems to chew and digest bones easily. Chewing bones provides fantastic mental and physical enrichment for your dog, but if you're concerned, you can opt for raw minces that include ground bones instead of whole bones. NEVER EVER give cooked bones to dogs, as cooking makes bones dry and brittle.
Raw bones, on the other hand, stay soft and are easily chewed. Remember to feed bones on their own sparingly and always supervise, as too much bone can cause constipation and digestive tract issues.
Our food follows the ‘Prey’ model of raw feeding- 80% meat 10% bones 10% offal, this is a balanced, complete diet that will keep your dog happy and healthy, we do however believe that variety is great for dogs - so if you want to add a raw egg, some sprats, a sardine or cooked/raw vegetables, go for it!
Remember, like everything, moderation is key with any addition to your dogs meal.
